ICAR-KVK West Tripura Conducted Capacity Building Program on Nutritional Kitchen Gardens

        The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, in collaboration with ATARI, Zone-VII, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), West Tripura, successfully conducted a three-day capacity building program on “Preparation of Nutritional Kitchen Gardens” from 29th to 31st July 2024 at the Belbari campus. The program was organized under the 100 Days Action Plan and as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, marking 50 years (1974-2024) of KVKs and ICAR RC for NEH Region.
        This initiative, conducted under the ICAR-sponsored NARI (Nutri-Sensitive Agricultural Resources and Innovations) scheme, aimed to empower farm women by enhancing their skills in establishing nutritional kitchen gardens. A total of 20 nos. trainees from across the district participated in the program.
        Throughout the training, participants were guided by Shri Debashis Datta, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension), who served as the Course Coordinator, with Dr. Nagaraju M.C., Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Entomology), acting as the Co-Course Coordinator. The technical sessions covered a range of essential topics, including kitchen garden layout planning, nursery bed preparation for vegetable seedlings, and pest and disease management practices in vegetable crops.
        During the valedictory session, Dr. Ganesh Das, Senior Scientist-Cum-Head of KVK West Tripura and Course Director, presented certificates to the participants. The trainees expressed their appreciation for the practical knowledge gained during the program, which they can now apply to improve their household food security and nutrition. The program's success highlights the ongoing commitment of ICAR-KVK West Tripura to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the livelihoods of rural women through capacity building and innovative initiatives like the NARI scheme.
